Twi pop General and CEO – Darlington Agyekum aka D Cryme was awarded Most Influential Entertainment Personality 2017 in USA at the Distinguished Entertainment Awards 2017.
Dr Cryme is the stage name of Darlington Kwasi Agyekum, a Ghanaian rapper and early proponent of the Ghanaian “twipop” genre. Dr Cryme has also performed as a TV presenter, and is CEO of Twipop Recordz. Agyekum was born in Tema and began making music in his early school days. He study at the Datus School and then attended ASUTECH in Cape Coast and Sotech in Somanyabefore earning a certificate in broadcast journalism from the Ghana Institute of Journalism. Agyekum began performing as Dr Cryme (Creative Rhymes You Most Enjoy) in June 2010, where he was presented by E-Jam Records at a debut party at the Bacardi Sports Bar in Tema. His first hit single was “Kill Me Shy”, released off of his Finally Finally album in June 2011. “Kill Me Shy” went on to become a number one hit for two quarters in 2011. Dr Cryme’s second major single, “1Step 2Back” was released on August 2012. In 2012, Dr Cryme (also appearing as D-Cryme) won the “Hiplife Song of Year” award, and gained nominations for “Best New Artist of the Year” and “Hiplife/Hip Hop Artiste of the Year” at the Ghana Music Awards. In the 2013 showbiz calendar, he has released two major singles off his upcoming Arrival Album namely Komkom na maye (Quiet that I am) and Wow (Woman of Wonders) featuring the pioneer of azonto and antenna movement Fuse Odg which is enjoying air pay across the nation and beyond. Aside from his own projects as a musician, D.Cryme as a creative innovator has recruited and signed four young talented chaps into his Twipop Record Label. The personnel under his record label are called the Twipop Souljaz.
